Tsuki has a new ABOUT section!         Tsuki is a very special lady Shiba with a dignified demeanor and unmistakable poise. She bucks the breed stereotype in many ways with her unshakable patience and lack of aggression. Like most Shibas, she demands that people earn her trust and affection. Quiet and cat-like, Tsuki comes to my office everyday, where she waits patiently for me while I work in my lab. She adores playing fetch (it really is an obsession) and any toy that squeaks. She wants to thank you for reading her blog!A Short History of Tsuki         Tsuki was rescued on August 17, 2008 in King, NC. She was destined for euthanasia at a high-kill shelter when Terri, a foster with the Mid-Atlantic Shiba Inu Rescue came to her aid. Tsuki arrived in my life a poorly-socialized and sickly pup. Accustomed to country life and a very small social world, Tsuki had lots of trouble with the noises and throngs of people in the big city. A few weeks after bringing her home, I discovered she had been suffering with atopic allergies that had been untreated for four years. Not long after I learned that she also was afflicted with degenerative disc disease, which was causing a bony growth to press on her spinal column, leading to eventual paralysis.
After many months misdiagnosis and steroid treatments, Tsuki was finally given the go-ahead for spinal surgery in July 2009, which left her completely paralyzed for a few days! She recovered her strength fully in a few months, and put on some much-needed weight. A year later, I am happy to say she is now a healthy, joyful pup that is getting over her shyness and fear issues slowly and surely.- Tsuki’s mom, Janaki
